an OT poem...

Whenever you hear the name Pat Whitney, one of our OT friends, we think of a person who is a very talented writer, composing website proposals, fund raising mailings or minutes at our meetings. Many of which have become gems of great memories.

Just recently in an e-mail to me, Pat included a poem she had written about OT at one of the many poetry workshops that she attends and I felt it should be shared with the OT Community.

      October 2012
      
      Most never get it
      but those who have it
      struggle to be both
      understood and upright.
      
      It’s the standing
      no one understands.
      How it is that we can walk
      but not stand.
      
      Orthostatic Tremor doesn’t
      make sense. And if we stand
      too long, we are
      rooted to the spot
      
      like the Winged Victory
      on the grand staircase
      of the Louvre.
      Only not as graceful.
      
      There’s even a name
      for the sensation that your feet
      are encased in cement.
      Gait Ignition Failure.
