I just found out I have OT
In 2006 my heart Dr. suggested that I go to a neuroloy clinic.I went and was told that I had the beginning signs of Parkenson. I was put on Requip 3 times a day. In Aug. 2007, My GP Doctor suggested I get a second opion which I did on Aug. 23, I was told I did not have Parkenson that I had Primary Orthostatic Trremor. He took me off of Requip and put me on Clonazepam 1 MG tablet. Can anyone tell me what to exspect. I have had this problem with my legs since 1997, it started after I had a pace maker put in. I can only stand for short periods of time then I have to sit or lean on something. I do pretty well walking. I have told all of my DRs. for years about my condition but no one could tell me what was wrong. I do feel somewhat of a relief just knowing something is wrong and that I don't have Parkenson. I live in El Dorado AR
Joy, you sound exactly like me! No one could tell me what the problem was.I told Dr. after Dr. they all seemed baffled. Finally found a neurologist that told me what it is. I am on Clonazapam. Makes me sleepy if I give into it. But if I just try to keep busy, it helps somewhat. Not as much as I would like it to, but at least I don't feel like i am going to collapse!
Good luck with it, hope it helps you, and what a relief to find this site!!!
Cannot believe how many people have OT.

Joy,
I'm glad you posted! I was diagnosed just a few weeks ago myself, although I've suspected this for a few months now. My symptoms sound much like yours.
The neurologists here have been good listeners--I've been blessed by that. They first suggested backing off the depakote I take for epilepsy, as that med can cause tremor. So, I tried that for two months--it helped a bit--but not enough. So, they suggested klonopin (clonazepam) on an as needed basis--so I don't take it every day--just when I feel shaky or know I have a day that'll require some standing. Each tablet is 1 mg, I believe. It sometimes makes me drowsy, but if I keep active I'm able to stay awake.
I will be going back to the doctor on Tuesday for the 2 month evaluation of the klonopin--there have only been a handful of "bad" days in these two months. There are still some "shakies" at other times, but even these seem less "stressful." So, I am more pleased with how things seem to be going.
Then on Wednesday, I and OT will be the topic of Neurology Grand Rounds--it's exciting, I think--to be able to share with the whole department--many of whom have no knowledge of this condition!
Keep fighting the good fight!
