Lyrica and Topic "Help is here!!"

Post by PeJot »

Hello,
it is a bit confusing, no one of you, who took Lyrica didn't had real sideeffects :?: ? Because I read in other Forum in Germany about Lyrica and they told about awfully sideeffects :( ! They told about being horrible tired and dizziness (standing beside you like a zombie) or Libido-Problems (nothing works..) and so on. Perhaps it depends on the dosis? How much did you take?
Hope for helping answers, because my dad (72) has Orth. Trem. since last autumn.
Thank you in advance and greetings from Germany

Hi Petra,

I tried Lyrica and did experience side effects. I felt very "out of it" and headachy so that I did not continue. It gave me some feeling of steadiness but no more than I had been getting with Gabapentin which I had been taking only on an "as needed" basis. (When going into a situation which would necessitate some standing.) . I am now on a very small daily dose of Gabapentin and find that it gives me enough steadiness to function without the "freezing" which was beginning to be a major problem.

Good luck with your father!

LYrica and Help is Here.

Post by Betty »

Hello Petra,

My name is Betty, and I wanted to address some of your questions regarding side effects when taking Lyrica. I tried it, after reading of the success of others on the site.

I am very sensitive to almost all medications usually given for OT; but I wanted to give Lyrica a try. My doctor told me he didn't think I would be able to take it because it is in the family with Neurontin ~ which I am unable to take.

I think each person is different and the amount taken will also differ from person to person. I tried taking the lowest dosage at bedtime, 25 mgs.

I was awakened in the night with a very severe headache, did not rest well and finally got up very early in the morning. By about 10:30 a.m. the headache seemed to disappear. I didn't feel well; but took another tablet that night. I didn't have another headache, but when I got out of bed I was very dizzy, off balance, unable to walk without falling into the wall, felt dull and drugged. As I said, I am very sensitive to medications.

But....I wanted to give Lyrica a good try so I took another tablet the following night and after three days ~ three tablets ~ I was even more unsteady, more off balance, more difficulty walking, very dull and couldn't focus my eyes; which were puffy and swollen.

I decided this was one more medication I am unable to tolerate. I did post of this experience in a bit more detail under another topic. If you will go to the Topic page, look for Help is Here!. Scroll down to Sunday, March 11 and you will find a short posting by me.

Then scroll down a bit more to Monday, June 18; there you will find a longer posting and the effects I experienced with Lyrica.

I see my friend, Harriet, also wrote to you to tell you of her experience. She is one of a few people I have met, in person, and it certainly helps to be able to talk to someone else who suffers from the same problems; because you KNOW they understand exactly what you are experiencing.

I am sure it is difficult for you because you are trying to get answers for your father. I know all who visit this site Gloria has set up will give you as much information as they can to help.

Please keep us informed as to how your father is getting along. We are all interested in anything others can provide. Some of the things might be a little negative, as my experiences have been; while others may be a lot more positive.

We all continue to HOPE , and try to find different ways of helping one another cope.

Good luck; and I am so happy you found this site. Gloria has given so many of us a means to communicate and learn from one another.
