My mom has OT

This is my first time online looking for answers. My mom is 77 and has OT. It has really hit her hard this last year. She uses a wheelchair quite a lot. Just last year she was mowing her lawn, pruning, taking care of her whole house. She is an immaculate house cleaner. She plants new plants in her flowerbed and plants a garden every year. I am her daughter and live about 3 blocks from her. I go over and do little things that she needs. She does the best she can daily with getting her chores done. She has a medalert. I was called from work one day to answer the alert and found mom "stuck" sitting on a chair. She couldn't get off the chair and was gripping the counter to stay on it.

She takes gabapentine (sp). I read a little about beta blockers. Has this been helpful in treating OT? My mom can't really describe the pain she has on a bad day. She describes it similar to a headache in her legs. Sometimes the pain is in upper leg, sometimes lower. It also depends on what she is trying to do.

Dear Teresa: Pain is not the primary complaint of OT people and if pain is involved it generally comes from another health condition, perhaps osteoarthritis,sciatica, etc. I would check with her physician. Gloria

Hi Tlombard.
I can sure feel soory for your mom..
I too use a wheelchair on times.
I have found gabapentin plus a bata blocker to help.
Make sure she had lots of stools around.
I use one for cookng at the stove, another in the bathroom, one for outside, and so on. I could not so without them. I am 69 years old
