Anyone with OT with young children?
I have just got OT confirmed (thanks golfnut for your site, it was on googling shaky legs my questions were answered). I am 33 I have twin 2 year old boys and a 4 year old daughter. I had plans to study midwifery and now that has all turned to custard! I am now waiting to see a neurologist but in the meantime I really want some practical advice. I am finding day to day life a challenge. I am frustrated when I have to stand. Is anyone out there with a young family who has OT. I get through my day by sitting or leaning as much as possible. I haven't worked for almost five years as I have been raising my family but now I want to contribute and be involved. I don't know what job my body can handle. I am ready to study for a new career but I am not sure what the future holds. In the meantime I am keen to explore alternative therapies because the drugs sound rubbish! So I am keen to try homeopathy, acupuncture and hypnosis - have these helped anyone?.
I have many many questions - I hope I can get my head around this as much as possible!

Hello Ems.....
I just read your post and wanted to at least let you know it has been read. From what you wrote, you have heard from golfnut; she has her own thread on this site with a lot of good information.
You mentioned you don't want to take medication but would be open to homeopathy, acupuncture or hypnosis. Golfnut has on her thread how homeopathy has been a tremendous help to her and she is off all medication. She indicated she feels so much better; do check that out, it might be one option for you.
I don't know of any other young mothers with such young children who have OT; but there may be others out there who haven't found this site yet. I can only imagine how much of a struggle it is for you trying to care for three young ones ~ two year old twin boys and a four year old daughter.
Your children are certainly a blessing, but having OT is not!
I think all of us go through our days doing the same as you, leaning or sitting in order to control our tremors. However, I don't think many of us have young children as you do. This would certainly make it a lot more difficult.
The best advice I might give to you is to try to stay positive, rest whenever you can (you probably wonder when you would ever find time for rest with three young ones), but perhaps when they nap, you might have just a little time for yourself.
Regarding working....since computers are the thing of the future, you might try to get some schooling in that area and would be able to work sitting ~ some even can work from home.
You indicated you have many, many questions....ask them and perhaps soneone will have answers for you. We all try to help one another ~ we are like a very large family ~ now you are in our family.
It is quite a "bitter pill" to swallow to learn one has OT, but it is better to know than to be in the dark.
I do hope you will ask your questions and I hope tomorrow will be a better day for you.
Good luck!
Betty

Thank you Betty I appreciate your reply.
Re: Anyone with OT with young children?
Hello ems,
happy to have been of some help
. As Betty says, I have written about my amazing change through homeopathy/energy medicine treatment. I do not take any drugs since dec 2012 and I function almost normally. When in a crowd that moves very slowly, or needing to stand still at a funcion, I feel the tremors come on - but in my everyday life they hardly bother me at all anymore.
It is a very strange but immensely positive development.
Regarding OT, it took me almost a year to "settle in" with OT - but even when it was at it's worst in November last year, I had learned to manage. Planning and leaning were my main methods.
I have a desk job so work has continued without problems. I think most jobs can be managed as you can sit in most jobs - but perhaps on a high chair (such as hairdressers have?). There are solutions to most problems but you need to be able (have the courage and strenght) to start seeing solutions and not just stop when a problem arises. Easier written than done - but I've been there so I know..
It's easy to let the OT problems be the main concern in your life - but if one can manage to push it to the background it is an advantage. You need to be "just" ems more than "ems-with-ot" if you see what I mean.
It is a struggle, but worth it.
As for alternatives: read up on the food-suggestions. Fairly easy to try (at least compared to invasive surgery). If you want my homeopath contact (she can be reached by Skype) send me a pm. Swimming/water gymnastics has been suggested as we in the water can eliminate weight on the legs and thus stop the OT temporarily. Weightloss can also help...
Good luck and do write and tell us your thoughts!
best regards

Re: Anyone with OT with young children?
PS - why have you dropped the midwife plans?
Are you sure you cannot manage?
I know how impossible it might feel to do things you could before, or do new things you have planned. In my case it was golf - I almost gave it up and cried a LOT as this was (and is) so important for me. But then I realised I could still do it - just differently from before.
Don't give up, give it a try!
