Orthostatic intolerance

Post by Lauras31 »

I am 31 years old and have had this since March 20. I got the upper respiratory flu and ended up in the hospitol with unexplained dizziness and heart racing upon standing now a little over a month later I am going through depression that I can't hardly do anything anymore and I have 2 young boys and it kills me. If anybody is going through this email me and we will talk!

what is "orthostatic intolerance"? sounds like an inability to stand upright. I am new here and not familiar with all the variations of this disease (disorder?). I am learning at lightening speed though and I am SURE OT and it's variations are much more common than anyone thinks. I was talking to a PD friend of mine yesterday about what I've experienced in the last month and she said, "oh I avoid lineups like the plague" She is not able to stand up to take a shower anymore and mentioned a few more things I am hearing here as well. I believe that even though her PD is akinetic (she is not tremor dominant like about 60% ) she has some OT happening as well. I'll get to her once I get myself sorted out. Back to the question at hand ....what is orthostatic intolerance, and how do you know thats what your problem is? Need more info to fit the pieces of the puzzle together here. Hugs ...J

Fight the depression

Response to Lauras31... I have had recognizable OT for several years now and it hit just as I was retiring from 20 years of teaching and planning a long and active retirement. I also have a new Grandson that I am afraid to pick up and hold sometimes because I am afraid of losing my balance. I finally got 'down' enough to research this site. How hard it must be for you to try to raise little ones! My prayers are with you. From somewhere inside we need to draw strength. Your family needs you in whatever capacity you can fill for them, even if limited from what you were used to. I think it helps to find others of like limitations that are coping (even while complaining, like me!) as well. I also went through a life threatening disease requiring major surgery when I was just a couple of years older than you and so sometimes feel.... why me?...again?... another handicap I don't need! But we must just keep doing the best we can and try to remember the folks that are in worse shape then we are. Sincerely,
Donna
