We have created a new poll focused on current treatment. Please visit the poll and post your information. As more OT members post their findings we will get a better picture of the current situation and this could benefit us all.
Below is the link to the new polls, you can post in both polls: "medication that has offered some relief" and "medication that I have stopped using". Just be aware that you will need to be logged in to post your information. And if there are treatments that you find helpful, or not helpful, please reply within the poll discussion with any additional information that you'd like to give.

Re: New Medication Poll / Survey
I was diagnosed in mid-May, 2011 and started taking clonazepam in June I am now taking i 1/2 tablets (.5mg) in the morning and at nighttime. I have seen some improvement. I did have an essential tremor in my right hand when I tried writing. That has disappeared and the OT symptoms are less. I take a lot of pilates and have had 4 Physical Therapy sessions. The PT had never heard of OT. However, he is working to get my body to adjust to the imbalance and strengthening my body which is what pilates does. Some of the PT exercises I can not do; such as standing on one foot or putting wait on my heels. I have found that when I walk on uneven surfaces if I remember to use my core and tighten leg and buttocks muscles I can walk better.
I'm very interested in hearing what others have experienced,

Thank you for posting your choices of things you are trying to help you cope with OT. It sounds like you are on a good course. I would guess that deep breathing exercises are part of your pilates too. Those of us with OT are very shallow breathers because of the “fight or flight” stress in our daily lives. Keep us posted , we are all working together on the “OT Curse” Gloria

General Feedback
I was diagnosed with OT in 1995 and have been under the care of a movement specialist neurologist since then. Have tried many meds but the one I always seem to come back to is Clonazepam. I am now on 8 mgs/daily. It really just takes the edge off, but does not improve my ability to stand and be able to walk more than a few steps. I will be seeing my doctor in a few weeks and am wondering if anyone has had success with any other medication besides Clonazepam. I speak to the doctor each time I see him and ask him if he has read any research on OT. He even goes through Medline while I am there (which is a site that contains many medical journal articles). Never finds any journal articles on OT. When the NORD grant is awarded, it would be good to announce to the forum members the name of the researcher who was awarded the grant. I would be able to discuss this with my neurologist to find out if he has any knowledge regarding the researcher. Gloria, can this be done?
I am planning to have knee replacement surgery in the coming months and was wondering if anyone else on our forum has had this surgery and how it has affected their OT. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had this surgery.
Lookin forward to your replies.

We are all anxious to hear about the final selection of the researcher however the process is in the hands of NORD’S Medical Advisory Committee ( composed of leading medical & academic scientific experts) who have sent the information about our grant throughout medical research channels. NORD will evaluate and make the final careful selection of the researcher from the proposals they receive from them.
Best regards, Gloria
