My feet get sore on the tops from clenching my sores to secure better balance - any suggestions to relieve the soreness?

Hi Carolyne ,
I can `feel` what you are asking !
[think you meant to write clenching my toes?]...I massage my feet often with a good hand cream including toes and rest a hot wheat pac on them through evening TV....I`m sure they respond to some tender loving care ?
I have found tight straps or shoes across the top of my feet most uncomfortable for some years...
maybe that is all part of OT?
prehaps a hot foot bath with a few drops of lavender oil would be good to ?
even in the summer months I have found my lower legs feel cold
[not to touch ? inside out if you get my drift?] when sitting in the evenings so
have a `nana` wool blanket close at hand ....to wrap round ....not a great look ,but a comfort !
plan to invest in a pair of sheep skin slippers after years of thinking `you will never catch me in those things`
....life is full of change ,big and little ...aye?
best wishes..DiDi NZ

Re: OT
Hi Carolyne,
then I stand I mostly lean on something/anything which reduces the balanceproblem. I also try to stand on one leg (when leaning) so that I can "wriggle" the other foot around a bit, relaxing it. I also try to remember to flex toes and relax feet as much as possible both when standing and sitting so that they do not stiffen.
wriggle wriggle!

Re: OT
Yes, this discussion of our feet and the effect OT has on them becomes an array of how we all have to give “ tender, loving care to them”. Remember they are part of the daily cycle when we attempt to stand, their challenge is curling under in our attempt to stand and balance. Over the years this curling under tightens our toes together and they require separating as we are taught in Yoga simply by putting our fingers between our toes, one foot at a time and flexing our feet with our hands. As I have mentioned before by the end of the day they are NOT happy and no shoes at all is best so they can feel better grounded. Shoes that are flatter and soles that are thinner are better readers of the surface of the ground.

Hi...still on the feet topic ,Gloria you have given me food for thought ?....the weather is cooling here , and I`m getting back into heavier shoes ...all last winter when ever possible I wore my mens Doc Martin boots ...their thick straight soles with grip gave me much confidence ,sort of knew when and where I was placing them, and cant recall one mishap ...
admit I am happiest bare foot ,till I stop and sit and then they feel cold!
I have written on another page , that I walk/wade stretch and jog in our local hot Hydrotheropy pool most mornings ,the excersise gets my feet and toes working without the whole body weight on them ,the water supports and keeps you up right.....found it really tricky at the start , with that weird feeling travelling up legs ....but you cant fall?... and found that feeling just floated away .
realise I`m so lucky to have such a amenity close at hand , but recomend if there is a way of finding and accessing a hydrotheropy pool ...do give it a go !
there is so many excersises you can do without the weight on your feet .
