Disability Benefit

Post by Jitterbug »

As a new contributor and occasional participant I would like to say how much I am impressed by the general sense of humour and exceptional forbearance displayed by the mebers of our blogsite. Are these traits associated with our condition? There might be a Research paper in there somewhere to which we can all figure.
I have two questions.
1. How many people are recognised as OT sufferers (Worldwide and UK)?
2. Has anyone persuaded the UK authorities that this qualifies as a "Disability"? I did try a couple of years ago but achieved nothing beyond a patient 40 minute phone call and a polite "Rejection Slip".
If anyone can help point me in the right direction I will try and exercise the humour and forbearance for which we are famous.
Keep on shooglin!

Hello,
I just wanted to let you know that Canada has recognized OT as a disability. I initially applied and was turned down but appealed the process and was accepted.

Maybe you can let the UK people know that and just keep trying - eventually they will figure it out. Possibly get a doctor like Dr. Peter Bain to use as a reference.

Hi Peggy
Thanks for the information. I am going to apply to Revenue Canada to be recognized with a disability as well. When I bought my wheelchair last year it took two tries but I did get 60 percent back from my extended medical after I sent a letter from my doctor. Sometimes it makes you wonder what they are thinking though......why would someone buy a wheelchair or walker if you didn't really need one?
Take care,
Chris :)
