Violently shaking legs the day after "exercise" -- is it OT?

Post by blackberryrabbit »

Hi! I have a problem with my legs shaking violently the day AFTER I do exercise (or much later the same day if I exercise early in the morning). The shaking lasts for about one or two days (depending on how much exercise I did.). What I mean by "exercise" is aquatic therapy, walking a quarter-mile, going up a staircase, or pedaling for 8 minutes on a machine similar to a recumbant bicycle but on which you only push your legs forward and back, not in a circular motion. My legs only shake when I'm standing and (a little less violently) when I'm walking, never when I'm sitting or lying down. It helps when I lean on a wall or chair. My legs feel as if they are about to give way and make me feel very unbalanced, but I've never fallen down because of it, just lurched a little to one side before I recover my balance. I have had the shaking legs problem for about two years now.

The only explanation I've been given for my shaking legs is that it "might be" from muscle fatigue. But how could it be muscle fatigue if I only get shaking legs beginning a whole day after exercise?? I've only ever heard of MINOR shaking IMMEDIATELY after exercise.

Do you think I have orthostatic tremors? Or is it muscle fatigue or something else?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if this is relevant, but here's my medical history in brief.

I have fibromyalgia (chronic pain, insomnia, fatigue, etc.) and sciatica, in addition to type 1 diabetes, celiac sprue, hypothyroidism, and asthma. The pain and fatigue have worsened over the past year and a half, with the additional symptoms of random, quick, sharp, skin-deep pains in my extremities; a constant low-grade fever; the sudden onset of high blood pressure (it always used to be on the low side of good); excessive weight gain (55 pounds in six months); and the onset of mild hypothyroidism. I do not have depression, I am not unusually stressed, and I have not significantly changed my diet, although I have gone from "sedantary" to "very sedantary". I also do NOT have lyme disease, multiple sclerosis (though my mother has it), Parkinson's, or Cushing's.

I've been to see a neurologist, two rheumatologists, a physiatrist (a sort of physical therapist doctor), an endocrinologist, etc., etc., but none of them has any idea what's wrong with me in light of all my symptoms and blood tests (high CRP, high white blood count, low MCH, normal iron, high but decreasing SED rate -- even though I have several abnormal test results, they don't add up to anything).

Whenever I swim or do aquatic exercise I immediately upon trying to get out of the water have violent tremors. I need someone to help me to find a place to sit down. Once I sit for a few minutes I am able to get up and walk.

At the beach while walking close to the water I am extremely dizzy. Always when I am walking I feel that I am going to fall forward. I actually will go forward and up on my toes.
