chair yoga

Post by beth »

What a comfort meeting so many lovely people at the OT seminar last weekend. It must have been encouraging to see other who are in the same battle with OT and coping with all the lifestyle adjustments. Thank you all for accepting me into the group.

One of the many common threads I kept hearing last weekend was the importance of exercising. Although I don't have OT (I was there to support my mother-in-law Gloria) and can't imagine how difficult it must be, I would encourage yoga because you can do the postures sitting and yoga has such great health benefits. I know that those of you who take a yoga class with OT have success and enjoy it. I found a sample "yoga in the chair" exercise demo on-line that you might want to try out. It is simple to use and most of the postures are easy. Some are only for people made of rubber bands, but if you skip past those, there still are many left to help with strength and balance. Only click on the numbered exercises 1 through 19, the right is full of advertisements.

Hi Beth,
Thanks for contributing this info. I am definitely going to look into this. I too was quite intrigued by OT people's comments about the benefits of exercise helping their OT. I am already quite active but am going to try some new ideas given to me at the seminar.

Hi Beth and Peggy,

I, too, checked the link you added Beth, and feel it will be helpful to us; especially since we can sit! Thank you for all you and Jeff are doing. It is most appreciated. It was such a delight to have the opportunity to meet you both.

Peggy, since you are still very active, I am sure you will find you are able to do everything shown. Let me know how it works for you. I will be trying the ones I feel I can do; anything is better than nothing, right?

Hi! Beth : I tried all 19 yoga positions , they are great, I do my version of them of course and very happy there are no cameras around. It is fun to hear the bones crunching, bones I never heard from before. Not all are doable yet and I have to coordinate my breathing better with the positions. You did a good deed by finding them for the OT crew. love, mom
