WOMEN OF WORTH AWARD

Hello everyone,
You may be aware by now that Gloria did not get chosen to receive the "Women of Worth" award that we nominated her for. I would like to try again next year as I feel this is very important - not only to give Gloria the recognition she is so deserving of but because the $10,000. award money would be a big boost for our research fund.

I have an idea of how we could approach it for next year and am giving you lots of time to prepare if you like this approach. What I did when I nominated Gloria for the Governor's award for New Jersey that she did receive was to ask Dr. Russotto if he would do up a "To Whom it may Concern" letter regarding Gloria. I told him about the award I was nominating her for and he was very happy to do up the letter. He talked about how valuable the website was that she had initiated and implemented.

When the "Women of Worth" award came along I noticed that anyone can send in a nomination and I contacted Dr. Russotto and asked him if I could send in a nomination, on his behalf, for Gloria. This way it was no effort for him. He agreed and I used his wording from the letter he had done up for her.

If everyone told their neurologist about the Women of Worth award and how we would really like to have a nomination from a neurologist and asked them to do up a letter "to whom it may concern" about Gloria, then you can send in the nomination on behalf of the neurologist after you let them know what you are planning, along with of course a nomination from yourself.

The nominations for 2012 cannot be sent in until about Mother's Day next year and I will advise you on this but you can get the letter from your neurolgist anytime and be prepared. If you feel you cannot get one from your neurologist then your family doctor would be fine - the main thing is to get some nominations sent in from the medical community - as mentioned "you" will submit on their behalf.

Also, I have emailed the Women of Worth program to ask if they could possibly set up their nomination process to allow for out of the country people to send in their nomination form directly. Last year it was only set up to receive nominations from U.S. citizens and I had to get them to send me a special nomination form which I did send out to applicable people in other countries but I would like to avoid this if possible.

I hope you will give this idea some serious thought - I did communicate it to a few OT friends and have received very positive replies. Also I am thinking that we could possibly mention this in our next yearly newsletter - it was sent out in April/2011 but maybe we could send it out a little earlier.

Hi Peggy,
This is a great and easily executed idea. I read your proposal and had my neurological check up just a week ago. I explained the idea to my neurologist, Dr Fox and she was extremely supportive. I am outlining the letter which she will put on her letterhead and sign. She is so pleased that the OT website exists and recommends it to all her OT patients.
Peggy, would it be helpful for all of us to inform you when we have approached our neurologists and have the letter in our possession?

This is a great initiative, There are a few of us here in Australia - through you, three of us are now linked and it would be good to know of any more "out there down under" (though from our point of you, it is YOU who are at the other side of the world!). I was very frustrated at not being able to nominate Gloria for the Woman of Worth award, as I am outside the USA, and was grateful for your facilitation. However, we still could not VOTE. So please ask them to fix that. It may be a legal issue restricing their licence to the USA, but let's see.
It is an excellent idea to get letters from our neurologists - let's mount an irresistable barrage of support
