The Orthostatic Tremor Forum (archive)

Hi All,
I have so far tried three drugs to trreat my tremor, but the side effects of the medication were worse than the tremor itself. Along with nightmares and excessive sweating, the last medication I tried; Propranolol, caused me to gain 23 pounds in 45 days!
I am now taking nothing for the tremor and trying to make the best of it. I try to shop and bank early when there are no lines, and my husband helps at the grocery store by checking out while I sit and wait for him.
I HATE this feeling of helplessness and fear that the tremors will get worse. I now cannot shop by myself anymore and I did so enjoy browsing and window shopping.
Any suggestions from anyone would be appreciated!

I've given in and shop online. I also do my banking online paying everything by standing order or direct debit and have monies paid straight into my bank account. I live in UK and have these facilities.
I know exactly how you feel, the embarrassment and being dependant on other people. I still wander through the shops but don't stop to purchase anything! It could be worse at least we are still mobile.

Hi Chrissie - Thanks for your reply. It is always nice to know that you are not alone with this problem. I do a lot of shopping on line now and, you are right, at least we still get around! I guess I need to focus more on the blessings in my life and less on the problems. I have 14 grandchildren and 4 greatgrandchildren and 6 children and a loving husband of 30 years, so I am indeed blessed!!
