The Orthostatic Tremor Forum (archive)

My father has been severely affected by what I believe is Orthostatic Tremor. He had 5 vessel bypass surgery 10 years ago and was put on Lipitor. Shortly after, he was unable to stand. Walking and sitting relieved the tremors in his legs. He would take a beer occasionally and this would help as well. Doctors have called this essential tremor. He has tried beta blockers. This has not helped. He found this web site and believes that he has OT. He is 72 years. He tries to keep active. Doctors have not mentioned this ailment. He and I believe that this is what ails his ability to stand. What kind of doctor is able to give this a name and treat it? He lives in Minnesota and is approximately 2 hours from Mayo. Is there a good doctor at Mayo?

Dear Lisa: Good to know that your father lives only 2 hours away from the Mayo Clinic. Your father should definitely go there for a second opinion. He should ask to see a neurologist who specializes in Neurological Movement Disorders. The Minn. Mayo Clinic is one of the finest ! I wish your dad success in his quest for a correct diagnosis.
