Hello to all,
We are mourning the loss of a great lady - Gloria MacWright passed away peacefully at her home last week
Along with her son Jeff, Gloria founded this website in 2000. After many years she had finally received a diagnosis and wanted to establish a website to see if there were others out there with OT.

Since that day, Gloria replied to everyone who contacted the website, letting them know that they were not alone. She would also answer questions and try and help in any way she could. This would have been a huge daily task dealing with all the inquiries and she kept this up until a few years ago when health issues prevented this.

When I decided to organize the first ever meeting for people with OT in Rochester I also used the website as a means of getting the word out about this and giving details - the meeting would not have been possible otherwise. We had 10 OT people attending and from this, we established a partnership with NORD and this resulted in eventual research taking place that is ongoing.

When research began with Dr. Diego Torres-Russotto in Omaha, the website was also necessary to advise interested participants.

This was all the days before Facebook and this website was so valuable to everyone with this rare disease. It was a way we could find out more information and eventually meet others with this same problem.

In 2008, Gloria was awarded the Governor's award for volunteerism in New Jersey - she was so deserving!

I had the pleasure of meeting Gloria on a few occasions and also kept in touch with her by phone.

She really dedicated her life to this cause and has impacted and made a difference to so many - she will be missed.

Hi Peggy

Thank you for the very nice tribute. Gloria cherished your friendship. And thank you for everything that you have done for the OT community. The OT meetings and the research would not have happened without your tireless work.

Wishing you and the extended OT community all the best.
