Thank you for the diagnosis

Post by Joan »

Like so many of you I have had OT for several years and have had Doctors doing all kinds of tests. I finally found your forum by googling leg tremors instead of balance problems and bingo, there you all were. I took the info to my Doctor who was relieved to finally have a diagnosis. He is sending me to a balance clinic sometime soon. I was laughing because most of you have come up with the same coping skills I have. I do a lot of sneaky leaning, sometimes in bramble bushes or dusty cars or whatever is handy. I can't seem to lean on my solid husband as he breathes. I have found a cane with a flip out chair on it and I take it everywhere. In the stores people think I'm stock taking. I hang it over the handle of the shopping carts so I can grocery shop. I notice my symptoms are worse when I am tired or nervous or anxious. I was just in Arizona and was delighted that the shopping centres had the electronic wheelchairs. Heaven to just scoot around and not fall over. I am 67 and in really good health so it's hard for people to remember that I have a problem.
Okay, this is a book, but I am so happy to be able to talk to others that have the same problems, you make me feel more normal ( I really thought it might be mental )

Welcome Joan you found us!!
I am so happy that you have found your diagnosis. All this leaning is annoying and I find I have to be careful with my outfits (such as a light coat) as I need to lean on a lamp post when waiting for my train on a daily basis. I know what you mean about not being able to lean on people too, I also worry that it might look a little odd to passers by. :?
Anyway just wanted to drop you a welcome note :)

Hello to Joan and Mike!

I also wanted to welcome you to the forum and this wonderful website ~ thanks to Gloria and Jeff.

Many of you know me; and how long it took to find a name for this problem. After I was told I, PERHAPS, had Orthostatic Tremors; I immediately started my search on the Internet. I found this site and was thrilled to learn it is a real problem and not one imagined (not a mental problem); as I was told several times. I can certainly relate to you Joan.

As you have read, we all learn different ways of coping, whether it is walking, leaning or just moving; of course, sitting is best to totally relieve all temors; but we can't just sit our lives away!

Good luck to both of you and if you have ANY questions; I feel there will be someone who has experienced the same thing and will be happy to share their experience with you.
