Choosing the right medication IS a trial and error process for most people, we can only show the ones that other OT people have had experience with. You say your grandmother is very active which is very good, so helping her to stay as mobile as possible there are things that most OT people have to choose from such as a walker with a seat, a cane/chair tripod and a wheelchair etc. All these things are essential when leaving the comfort of their home for the outside world. Understanding from you and the family plus showing her ways of maintaining her independence will be a great help to her. Gloria

Well my Lyrica journey is about to take a turn. I have been experiencing burning sensations in the back of my head - not a headache, but a temperature change and pressure deep within the skull in a very distinct area. At times the sensation travels to my my right eye and I have blurry vision. I saw my neurologist this week and have just picked up my new (cheaper!) prescription for Gabepentin 300 mg TID. I will make the switch tomorrow. I am a bit hesitant to switch cold-turkey but that was his advice. I was hoping to find a post or 2 on the subject so I know what to expect.
I am hesitant to switch because I have had such great success with the OT. I haven't had tremors in so long I hardly remember them. But my head heat and pressure is overriding this success. I cannot take the side effect any more.
The positive: I paid $18 for the Gabepentin whereas I was paying a whooping $190 for the Lyrica each month. The price has risen by $10 three times since I started taking it. Drug companies are so greedy!

Gabapentin works very well for me and I hardly feel tremors on a daily basis. However I also think that this "non-tremor" status is much due to my having adapted to OT in my daily life. I can even stand in line in a shop for a bit waiting to pay without too much emotional stress or problems (i shift weight from foot to foot as a drunken duck, or wander around in small circles -- funny but I can do it when I feel at ease). But if something unexpected happens (meeting a friend on the street who wants to chat) or I feel stressed (all these people STARE at me, no room to move around in circles) tremors are agressive and not possible to manage...
Anyway - I hope Gabapentin will work as well for you as for me, and that life is nice and calm and thus almost tremor-free!
