[quote="dottiesport"]A few people have mentioned getting leg cramps, which I also get from time to time. I wanted to share something that I have been using to stop the cramps in a short time.....yellow mustard, if you have packets use a packet also keep by your bed when you have it happen it is next to you, or get a jar of yellow mustard and take one tablespoon, keep a packet in your wallet or handbag, it really works!!!!

Thanks Dottie. All the information that you, Gloria, and others has helped me tremendously. I occasionally get leg cramps as well and didnt until recently make the connection. Not sure about the mustard but, I may try it next time. Thanks for your input. :)

Hello Dottie,

I too, have severe foot/leg cramps and have tried several things; but not yellow mustard. I will most certainly get some of the packets to keep in my purse as well as by my bed.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Betty,

Let me know if you try the yellow mustard as I know it has helped a lot of my friends, a pharmacist had mentioned this a long time ago and I have passed it on and people are amazed.

I wish it would help our OT....but at least it helps the leg cramps.

thinking of you Betty and wondering if you have tried the yellow mustard for your leg cramps, also came on to see if anyone has tried any new drugs that have a success story, I have tried laser besides going to acupuncture but have not had any relief, but will not give up until I find some relief. Has anyone tried propranolol for the tremors with any help? Will be going to a new doctor , could not get an appt. until August 6th, will let you know what she has to say , if anything new happens.

My doc wants to try propranalol, I haven't decided if I"m ready to try anything else, yet. I'm enjoying a little bit of a migraine respite so I hate to mess with anything new at the moment. I would also like to hear from anyone who has tried propranalol.

Good morning Dottie and Marlana,

First, Dottie, I must tell you, I haven't yet tried the yellow mustard, but will try to find some packets. I have it in my frig, but that wouldn't help at night.

Regarding Propranolol (Inderal), I was on that years ago for high B/P; but got that under control and stopped taking it ~ per doctor. That was before I had OT. I now have high B/P again, and am back on Propranolol. It seems to have the B/P under control, but does nothing ~ for me ~ as far as reducing my trmeors. I take two ~ 20 mg tablets ~ daily. One in the a.m. and one in the p.m. I think there are others who do take it for their tremors, but don't know how it works for them.

Marlana, having suffered from Migraine when I was younger, I can appreciate you not wanting to "mess with anything new at the moment". One thing at the time.

Good luck to you both.

I hope you find some relief; anything would be helpful.

Betty

Hello Dottie
I was prescribed Propranol to see if it would help my tremore, but as I am an asthmatic, I had a reaction to it so was promptly taken off. I now do not take anything.

Hi I am Em - I am 33. I have just found your site after googling my symptoms in the last year. I am terrified and intrigued that its not in my head. I have moments in queues where the shaking starts and I can't stand up and have to lean for support. I find it hard to put out the washing, showering. I am going to see my doctor this week but what does this all mean!! I am very stressed at the moment and have been since I noticed it appearing. I appreciate all your advice

Hello Ems,
breathe and relax - this is not as bad as it seems, you are not alone - we are all here to give you our support! :)

Tell you doctor that you are concerned about orthostatic tremor and perhaps he or a neurologist can find out if this is indeed what you have. If so - you have now found the right place to be - there are lot's of friends here.

I got my diagnosis 2009 (you can read my story below; the Golfnut story). Since then I've become worse, but also better.I use a stool in the shower and I need assistance at airports, but that is all "external" help I need today. I have adapted my life; I walk around brushing my teeth, I sit down to do the ironing, walk about to shake washing before hanging it up (quickly) and I lean on whatever is in front of me to cook, put on make-up, do dishes aso. Basically I do not stand still very much without leaning on something - and then I can do most everyday things.

It was hard in the beginning, but our minds&bodies are quite remarkable and adaptable! Now I manage fine, feel good and stable - despite tremors. I do understand to 100% your frustration and stress at this point and I hope you can find strenght and encouragement in my story; I manage, I even golf again!
OT is not easy to live with no - but we can and we do! So hang in there and let us know what happens. Also, you have OT'ers nearby in NZ, perhaps you can talk to or even meet.
Take care!

Hello Ems,

I must agree with golfnut; she has a wonderful ~ ongoing story of her OT. You should find it very interesting and helpful.

I got my diagnosis in 2002 and do see some detrioration over the years; but I think that is "the nature of the beast". However, having said that, all of us learn to cope with OT on a daily basis, and you will too.

Try to keep a positive attitude, continue to check the forum and you will find, as golfnut said, lots of friends here who are here to be as helpful as possible.

Good luck, and keep us informed.

Hi Dottie and others who have legg cramps
I had these cramps so bad i had to go to the imergency twice.
They were the worst thing i ever had.
However when i started taking gabapentin for my OT
i am so thankful to say i have not had anymore of these since.
Even if i were to not need to take these for my OT i would
still take them for these cramps.
They have given me my life back.
Can't say enough about them.
I take 900 mg of gabapentin a day.

Hi Everyone,
I know the yellow mustard works, that is why I mentioned it some time ago on this site. I have friends that get leg cramps really bad and quite often and when given the yellow mustard it works!!
Hope it works for you, please let me know if it does.

Hello, my name is Jane and I have OT. Actually my husband Adrian is writing this post because having been diagnosed a couple of months ago and am finding it quite hard to come to terms with it. I have had some short unsettling bouts but never figured out what it was until now. The symptoms would come and go, usually lasting for a day or two only. However more recently the symptoms have been lingering. My neurologist recommended gabapentin, which seemed to be helping but makes me drowsy. So far I am still working but struggle and need help getting in and out of the office. Feel very embarrassed. I ave a determined and positive nature so will fight on, but would like to know if anyone has had any good experiences with a new specialist and can recommend someone who understands and might be able to help me. I am English but presently living in south central PA. Would be happy to talk to other sufferers and am pleased my husband found this site .....
