Hi Everyone
I went to visit my neuroligst today and after much discussion I have decided to stop taking Neurontin.I have been on it ever since I was diagnosed.I have suffered bad side effects ...anxiety ,weight gain,confusion .The other reason is and those of you that have met me will understand more is that I need to be me even if it means I wobble around on my 'teddy bear' legs .I would like to know however what the withdrawal symptons are from those of you who may have been in a similar position.

Hi Mike
When I stopped taking Gabapentin I weaned myself off quite slowly....I think it took almost a month to be weaned off completely. I didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms except my tremors got a bit worse after I came off the very high doses. On the plus side I did mentally feel a lot better after even a short while and the other side effects I was experiencing diminshed quite quickly. My husband commented after a few weeks off the Gabapentin that I was a lot happier person. He definitely thought taking Gabapentin and the Clonazapam before that definitely changed my personality though at the time I didn't really notice it. I no longer take any drugs at all and yes I have tremors but I deal with them the best I can. I have even weaned off anti-depressants and I actually am enjoying life a lot more. I guess we all are different but that is how it is with me right now. Hang in there and stay happy.

Im now down to 300mg of Neurontin a day and tomorrow I take my last pill.I have to say I feel so much better My head is clear I feel much happier I have started losing weight I can play the piano ..which must be a miracle because I couldnt play a note before I started the pills ...sorry shouldnt be cracking jokes.....
Of course my legs are back to shaking all the time again but I am prepared to put up with it.The difference for me is I have this named condition now I can deal with it I dont have to listen to friends and family saying ' you should see a doctor about that'
My specialist has given me a whole lot of new pills to google to see what one I feel like taking next how weird is that .I am not going to take anything else at least for a while Im generally a happy positive person and think that as with all conditions a positive mind helps.
Just a note to Betty I do remeber being with you and your husband in Rochester...That meeting was a turning point for me and will attend anymore that are arranged.

Hi! Mike: First let me say it was such a pleasure that you were able to come to our meeting, we were a good mix of personalities dealing with the same problem,a very open situation that widens our perspective. Sadly the medical corner worldwide has nothing new in the way of helping us endure this miserable disorder so we individually have to make decisions in handling our own OT. Those decisions may change as time goes on but that will still be with you in control. The other thing I would suggest and have said many times before, if you have other health issues that can be treated it will help you deal with your OT which is a separate entity.
