Spring 2013 Fundraising

Post by admin »

Dear Friend of OT —

This year, we are involved in learning more about OT through the on-going work of three diverse research efforts dedicated to unmasking this elusive disorder.

Dr. Diego Torres-Russoto at the University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, continues his clinical trials on 50 more OT subjects and controls in the largest study ever conducted on individuals with OT. Many of us signing this letter have already participated in the Omaha trials.

Studies are also underway in Paris by Dr. Sabine Menieur and Professor Marie Vidailhet, and in Australia with Dr. Julian Rodrigues, funded by money raised through the Friends of OT and administered by NORD (National Organization of Rare Disorders). By the end of this calendar year, we should have some exciting new information to report!

In the meantime, Friends of OT in Australia are organizing a meeting in Sydney on June 22, with Dr. Rodrigues as a featured presenter. Details of this meeting are posted on the OT Website Forum. Click for more information and a discussion of the OT meeting in Australia.

Our most important work right now as Friends of OT is raising money under the NORD umbrella to fund more research on the origination, treatment and cure for OT. Many of us have held private fundraisers in support of this effort and each year we ask you to join us in making donations to NORD for the OT Research Fund. When we have reached our second $35,000 goal, NORD’s Medical Advisory Board will announce a request for proposals and will choose the most promising research proposal.

We recently received the exciting news that Di Conway, a well-known sculptor from New Zealand, has offered one of her new works titled “Go With the Flow” to raise money for OT research. The 8” bronze is valued at $600 and is mounted on recycled New Zealand Rimu base.

Di Conway requests that people mail checks to her, made payable to NORD with Primary Orthostatic Tremor Fund written in the memo line, along with the form below. For every $50.00 received she will enter the donor’s name in the drawing to be held on June 22, 2013 at the OT meeting in Australia. She will forward all checks to NORD and NORD will acknowledge all donors. To ensure that your entry arrives in time, please mail by May 30.

This kind of support has seen great success. One of our most dedicated OT volunteers raised over $14,000 several years ago, with a quilt raffle and dinner in Canada. If you would like to know more about holding a local fundraiser, contact patwhitney@juno.com.
We hope you’ll join us in supporting continuing OT Research in a way that feels right for you. You may also make donations directly to NORD, click for more information. Please be sure to note that your gift is for Primary Orthostatic Tremor Research.

Together we will stand up to OT!

Thank you,

Gloria, Peggy, Helen, Maggie, Pat, Betty, Myrna, Lori, Patty, Mike, Stella, Rosemary, Rita, Cindy, Stella, Morris and Beth
