Weight loss and OT

Post by RED »

Hi everyone...this is a letter I sent to Gloria and she suggested I posted a new forum on this subject of weight and OT. I hope you get some comfort from this and also it would be interesting to see what any of you think about it........

Hi Gloria
It is some time since I last had contact with you and I know that
since I have, you have not been well. I hope that things have settled
down for you and that life is continuing along it's so very
interesting path.
Since I 'spoke' to you last I have had to have an operation for the
mending of a Hiatus Hernia. The results were terrific and in that
respect has been for me, a tremendous relief. BUT,......and this is a
"hallelujah day"....the other side affect has been a terrific weight
loss. :D Because of back problems and OT and other bits and pieces,
excerising had been limited for a number of years. I put on the huge
amount of weight, for me, and of course, this was also an issue with
the medical proffession over these past five years, that it may be a
contributing factor to my tremors!...( these were the people , whom
had absolutely no idea what was wrong with me at the time, as you
know! ..and I was derided for my weight gain.) I have lost to date
since my op in late March of this year, 24 kilos (190lb) and am still
going down. Well, what do you know....my old insecurities came
flooding back and I was asking myself yet again, did I really have
these tremors or were they all in my head? !
The tremors are still with me and are gradually getting a little worse
over time. So while I am so happy with my weight loss, I am also
relieved to find my sanity is still intact and that the tremors have
not disappeared, as medics would try and convince you, would or might
happen.
I had an article in our local paper at the beginning of the year and I
asked them to mention OT in their interview. About three weeks after
it came out, I had another craft day and in a small town of 25,000,
three people approached me about OT. Two have actually got the problem
and one has a friend in Auckland north of here. I think they were so
relieved to actually hear that they were not the only poor souls on
the planet with these"mysterious shakes'. So I feel that even in
mentioning this as much as I can to bring awareness to our problem, it
is more of a life saver to people's sanity, while the medical
profession, still seems to just want to bury it's head and try any
excuse that it can to "justify" their ignorance.
Now that is my saga for this year, but I hope it helps those whom may
have a bit of a weight problem as well, and not to despair. I do feel
really great in this respect, for the first time in what seems like a
life time. Gloria, I can only say as always, thank you for your life-
saving site. Your dedication to OT and helping others is enspiring. :D

Love
Elizabeth Dodds, Taupo NZ.
