Re: Travelling tips

Hello! I just had a GOOD experience. #1 - Amtrak gives a discount to disabled passengers, regardless of whether you use a wheelchair or not. (I am able to use a cane-seat rather than a wheelchair.) This was an unexpected blessing at the ticket window. Not sure how to get that discount when buying on...

Re: The whole gamut of stools

Hello Jolarson - Thanks for voicing your appreciation. I just found a shoulder strap that at each end has Velcro-wraps that you place around your stool’s legs &/or cross brace tubes. http://www.everywherechair.com/ss-strap.html
Take care,

Employers could accommodate us at work, as employees

Mostly employers are accommodating of minor disabilities. Throughout the US, the Americans with Disabilities Act provides guidance and some teeth to help employers decide to be flexible on our behalf. For example, depending on the specifics of the situation, the ADA might say your employer should en...

The whole gamut of stools

A stab at a comprehensive listing of stools for orthostatic tremor: The listing is customized for people with orthostatic tremor. Here are stools and upright chairs we might use in situations when other people would stand up. All are either collapsible and/or height-adjustable and/or on wheels. Sour...

Re: Best all-around help is a portable folding stool

I forgot to add where to shop for portable stools:
- Anywhere they sell canes and walkers: i.e. pharmacies and medical supply stores.
- Golf shops sometimes sell the tripod stools.

Best all-around help is a portable folding stool

Sad to read in the posts that some folks avoid going out, shopping, lines, etc. Experienced OT-ers may find this to be overly basic, but maybe it'll be helpful to newly-diagnosed folks. These products have been mentioned elsewhere on the website but they deserve their own 'topic'. Here's the link wi...

Re: Kitchen Stools

I love my (expensive) kitchen stool. Advantages: a) Can go as tall as 31" (newer models might go higher). b) Has a hydraulic lift (like a fancy office chair) so I can adjust up & down depending on what I'm doing. c) The seat is a broad saddle shape (like a horse saddle, not a bike seat), wh...

Hello Nora, I've had OT from age 38 till now (45). I'm in decent aerobic shape and walk briskly three times a week. I'm also currently doing chelation because there's some evidence that there's too much mercury and lead in my body, that *maybe* has contributed to the tremor. And I have food sensitiv...

Hello, My biggest dilemmas are trains and buses. I look young and walk strongly, so it's awkward to ask someone to give up their seat for me. I've been known to say I have trouble with my knees, cause that's simpler for folks to understand. Standing-room-only Amtrak trains are frustrating: the only ...
