Re: "Participate in a support group"

Hi, Have you been in the care of a neurologist, or just a family doctor? My "family health team" here in Kingston basically has ignored my symptoms since I first tried discussing it with each and every resident I saw. I no longer am in a neurologist's care(private practice called her away). I sincer...

Re: "Participate in a support group"

Hi Dorothy, I also live in Ontario and don't know anyone else who suffers with OT. I was in the care of a neurologist in Toronto (who diagnosed me) but she has gone into private practice with something totally different. She referred me to a movement disorder clinic here in Kingston (near where I li...

Shower aids

I am having a lot of difficulty getting in and out of the shower. We have a grab bar and I have a folding seat but getting out is becoming more and more difficult.
Has anyone found any products that aid in this(shower base is only 30 inches wide).
I greatly appreciate any input.
Thanks.

Re: Trouble kneeling?

Boy, sorry I hit a nerve. I was just explaining what I experience.
Maybe I should get off this forum. Obviously, I make no sense to you and upset you at the same time.
Goodbye.

Re: Trouble kneeling?

I, too, have difficulty kneeling down, which poses a big problem when trying to do any type of garden work unfortunately. I have found that once I have been kneeling for a while, I am almost unable to get up again without assistance, which is quite frustrating. When I do get to a standing position, ...

Re: Is anyone in the Toronto area a member here?

I don't live in Toronto but a couple of hours down the 401 this side of Kingston. I know of one person who lives in Northern Ontario but I, too, would be interested in knowing about how many people are in the vicinity who also suffer with OT symptoms. It would be interesting to hear how others in ou...

Re: Your experiences with OT Medications

Thank you, lindainnd, for your response regarding your medications. I am sorry that epilepsy is added to your problems with OT. Has there ever been any suggestion of surgery to remedy the epilepsy or are medications the only solution for you? There have been remarkable results from surgeries done fo...

Re: Your experiences with OT Medications

Since my initial diagnosis of OT a couple of years ago, I have been taking 0.5mg of Clonazapam twice a day(I also take 1/2 tablet mid-day) and some days my symptoms are a little better but other days, nothing seems to have helped. Initially my doctor prescribed clonazepam as 2 tablets in the morning...

Re: SmartPhone apps and the OT tremor... (update)

I have been told by the Lift Pulse makers that this app no longer keeps track of tremors but that one can still download it and perhaps use a diary to track the tremors. Seems rather useless to me, so I have deleted the useless app from my android phone. This information was sent to me at the beginn...

Re: Exercise and manual stretching- positive effects

Hi Helen, I hope you do not mind me contacting you but saw from your post that you are from Toronto. I live in the Kingston area and was finally diagnosed with POT last year(in Toronto) after many, many years of trying to get a doctor here to take me seriously. I was encouraged by your results and w...

Re: How is everyone?

Hello, everyone, Just read the article on "lessons learned from my patients" and have bookmarked it so I might share it with my neurologist and my family doctor as well. It really pinpointed so many of the difficulties one encounters dealing with OT. My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 3...

Re: Can shoes help our balance?

Good afternoon, everyone, I just came across this post and was really interested in the last posting by Gloria where she mentioned that when asked about "curling toes under", everyone in the room put up their hand. I have been wondering about this for sometime now, and have come to the realization t...

Re: what say others?

Hi, Gloria, I noticed that you said you had taken Clonazapam but were now using Gabapentin(am I correct?). Was there a marked difference in how the tremors reacted or was it just how you felt? I see my neurologist again next week, and was wondering if I should try something different. We did decide ...

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction

Hi, Patricia, I live around Kingston, Ontario, and I, too went over 5 years without a proper diagnosis and lots of questions and no answers from residents! However, I was fortunate enough to be put in contact with a young neurologist in Toronto who diagnosed the problem and began treatment for...
