Re: Artice in the Washington Post this week about OT...
There is a Facebook Page which has over 600 members. It was established several years ago by a young Australian woman and its membership is constantly growing with people from all over the world. The Dutch also have their own site. You can ask anything on the Facebook page and there always seems to ...

Re: Knee Replacement and POTS
I am 63 - was a couple of weeks off turning 62 when I had my knee replacement. I went private to have my operation. As my husband is still in full time employment, we can afford to have health insurance, but that will change when he retires as health insurance in New Zealand is very expensive at our...

Re: Knee Replacement and POTS
I had a total right knee replacement at the end of October 2017. Four months earlier I had a meniscus tear repair, but after a month of walking, my knee gave out again so the Surgeon said the only option was a full replacement. I was in hospital four nights and left on elbow crutches. After a week a...

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction
Nin, sorry I've been a bit slow in replying to you about your possible knee replacement. I'm unsure if the OT itself did the damage to my knee - all I know is that I need to continue to walk for exercise and my knee was giving me pain and giving way on me, especially when walking downhill. I did hav...

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction
Hello Marianne. Thank you for your reply. Your OT is obviously far more advanced than mine, because I continue to take daily walks of about 45 minutes with our dog. I don't use a stool in the kitchen but do lean against the bench the whole time I'm in that area. I also can hardly operate at all in t...

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction
Marianne, My Neurologist diagnosed my OT without an EMG. I spent an hour with him while he had me perform different movements, including trying to walk down a hallway without heading towards a wall for support - which I couldn't do!! To counteract that, he advised me to walk with longer strides. He ...

Re: Balance problems
Hello Tressa, My neurologist diagnosed me without the EMG test as well. He told me there was a test he could do but he was so confident that I had OT he didn't believe it was necessary. I had an MRI on the brain before I was referred to the neurologist. I too sway from side to side, especially when ...

Re: How is everyone?
Hello everyone. Thought it was about time I gave an update after the horrific 7.8 Kaikoura earthquake of November last year. Life is slowly getting back to normal in our town, but access to the north is still totally cut off because of the massive slips which have blocked the roads and rail. We do h...

Re: How is everyone?
Hello Gloria. I have been experiencing heat/sweating in bed for a number of years and find I need to be as cool as possible or my legs overheat and ache. When they do ache, I find the coldest part of the bed and lie on my stomach to let the cold sheets ease the pain. We moved into our new home in Ka...

Re: How is everyone?
Thank you Frankie for your kind thoughts. I flew out of Kaikoura with my husband on Tuesday morning with a small airline which has started running flights in and out of Kaikoura since the earthquakes. Was a relief to get out, even though it will only be for 11 days. It was, however, a little disconc...

Re: How is everyone?
Hello Gloria, Beth and Jeff and all the OT community. Thanks for your message of support after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake which those in the upper South Island and lower North Island of New Zealand experienced just after midnight on Monday morning - well those were the areas most affec...

Hi Lynda
It is interesting what you say about standing on cobblestones, because I cannot walk on them at all without feeling very unstable. I prefer a flat surface.

Re: OT while walking... what's happening?
Hello Dee I certainly have those feelings when walking. Before I was diagnosed in 2009, I couldn't even walk in a straight line. My Neurologist advised me to take bigger strides and that certainly helped, but if I'm having a "bad" day, my walking seems to revert back. Then I bump into thin...

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction
Hello Dee I too have the "buzzing" in my legs, mostly at night but I've noticed it is happening more during the day. I describe it as being like an electric current running up and down the front of my thighs. When it happens I feel the rest of my body getting very hot and I start to sweat....
