Re: Primidone

Gloria:
I just tested my standing time. I stood still with my feet about 15 inches apart.
After one minute i started to become uncomfortable.
I forced myself to stand, however, and lasted for a total of 3 minutes.
( Stop watch timed)
Regards

Re: Primidone

I am on primidone and have been on for a number of years. I take 200 mg/day
I do not think that it does any good or has it ever. I suggested to neurologist that we run a test and see if there is any reaction.
He just said no, keep on taking it, it is helping you
End of story

Tilt Table Test-Beware

A heads-up tilt table test is a way to find the cause of fainting(s). It is not a test for orthostatic tremor but is frequently used in testing for orthostatic hyper tension. Background : At 8 am Sat March 18, 2017 I was sitting on a stool in the kitchen when I felt light headed. I remember saying t...

Re: How is everyone?

It is my opinion that OT consists of both balance problems and vibrating legs.
We learn to compensate for our vibrating legs and similarity we learn to compensate for our balance broblems.

Re: OT Presentation, March 10, 2016 with Dr. Joseph Jankovic

Hello Trpprjh: Thanks for bringing to our attention that your cousin has been diagnosed with OT. That OT has a heridatary aspect has been thought probable for some time. OT is similar to ET which has a strong heridatary aspect. (Granted that OT and ET are not the same even though they are similiar )...

Re: Long-term course of Orthostatic Tremor

This is an important study and seems to answer the question as to if OT is progressive much as we do not like to hear it. It certainly is the case with me. I have often been asked is OT progressive with you or are you just getting older? Getting older just compounds the problem of OT.

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction

An early concern about this book and the author. One can download the first 3 or 4 chapters. In chapter 2, page 5 the author quotes her neurologist's diagnosis as "Orthostatic tremor, also known as shaky leg syndrome". wrong, but, maybe this comparison is clarified later in the book These ...

Re: New to the forum? post a quick introduction

Hi Lia: A survey on this web site show OT affects women to men in a 2 to 1 ratio. Not a true test as women have a longer life span and OT usually does not show up until later in life but a good number to use. If you have the means I suggest that you go to a top notch movement disorder clinic or hosp...

Re: How is everyone?

Hello Cindy:
Your positive attitude is fantastic. OT can be as you say a pain in the b..., but, it is not life threating as is MS.

You referenced that your Father had OT. Was he diagnosed? That is of interest in that it suggests that at least in some situations OT may be inherited.

Liz:

How old were the neurologists?

Thanks goodness you have found this site. Slowly on OT is being better recognized, although old neurologists and many family physicians still have not heard of OT

The best to you.

Hi JoanC and other OT friends. JoanC wrote: "One other note before I sign off: Not sure if I read about it here or in another place, but I find the iPhone app iSeismometer to be a great way to show people (including doctors) exactly what you are telling them about your tremors." I have an ...

This appears to be a type of deep brain stimulation (DBS). I heard a Dr. who does DBS for Essential Tremor say that he would never do it for Orthostatic Tremor.

Hi Betty: In reference to your #15 above. "(15) Stress greatly exacerbates the symptoms of OT. [Personal note: Public speaking while standing at a podium and talking into a microphone drives the OT symptoms through the ceiling, as in, they get much, much worse]" I have been active in city ...
