NEWS FROM DR. TORRES-RUSSOTTO

Postby Lake of the Woods » Fri Feb 13, 2009 6:26 pm

Hello everyone,

I just heard from Dr. Torres-Russotto and he advised what I could announce on the website. "He has now moved to Omaha, Nebraska with the intentions of doing research on OT. Rules on research do not allow any publication until all papers have been signed and approval given. As soon as that is completed and he is ready for participants in the research he will notify me".

I had asked him if I could advise everyone of his future intentions to give you "lots of notice" that this year we will probably be holding another OT meeting in Omaha, Nebraska in conjunction with people going there to take part in his research.
I don't have any other details at the time as to when in 2009 that will be, but I just want everyone to start thinking about this. He did go on in his email to advise that he will give me "plenty of time" to recruit people, so I will just have to wait until he notifies me so I can let you know also.

Also, he went on to say that he is actively working on the questionnaire also and it should be coming out soon so we can look forward to that. It seems everything has to go through approvals etc. - you know how it is.

I will be happy to arrange the accommodation etc. for when the meeting takes place in Omaha and hopefully this year it will even a bigger crowd. I cannot tell you how important that meeting was to me personally last year - just to meet others with the same problem and to know who they are now if I am corresponding with them is terrific!

Sincerely,

Hi Peggy,

I just read the new information regarding Dr. Torres-Russotto and was pleased to hear he has made the transition from Missouri to Nebraska and will begin his research there.

You indicated he is working on his questionnaire; I do hope he will include some of the things mentioned on this site. I had written in a post dated June 18, 2008; stating I feel the adrenal glands might figure into OT in some way. I described my adrenaline as being out of control, maxed out, and on overload all of the time. I described it as a FIGHT/FLIGHT SYNDROME; and it is exhausting. I also feel, as I think many do, stress is a major factor.

I have gone back and read several other postings during that time and Amy in Connecticut said she experienced both the severe adrenaline issues as well as B/P drops when standing after sitting. Referring to my post, she said her husband describes the adrenaline issue like this: "my body should respond to an event of emotion or hunger or tiredness with a teaspoon of some chemical but instead dumps out a whole cup".

Again, that indicates to me the adrenal glands could somehow be involved in our OT.

Gloria also checked in June 20, 2008 and said, "through the years there have been other OT people who in their histories, have made mention of feeling stress (good and bad) produced higher adrenaline levels than the norm." She wrote much more, but I will stop with that.

I guess my main point is; please ask Dr. Torrres-Russotto to consider this as a question to be asked. I feel there may be many more OT people who have not expressed this. It is just another avenue for him to check.

I am looking forward to the questionnaire and the meeting in Omaha. I hope we have an even better turnout than we had in Rochester.

Thanks Peggy,

Please keep me posted about the upcoming meeting in Omaha. I wonder if Dr would be interested in me since I am now in a research study with Dr. Matsumoto in Rochester. It may disqualify me.
Thank you for all the time you spend on OT. Even if I do not get on the forum often I still think of all of you and appreciate everyone's input.

Good morning Peggy,

Regarding Dr. Russotto and his research on OT; if he needs another subject to test and study, I would be willing to be one of his subjects. I have been told by at least two or three neurologist, they have seen patients with OT; but none like me ~ whatever that means!

Just a thought you might pass along. When you have more information to post regarding the meeting in Omaha; Paul and I will certainly be there. I am looking forward to another meeting and hope more will attend this year.

Thanks for all your hard work; it is most appreciated.

Hello Betty and everyone else,

Good to hear your enthusiastic interest in the next meeting and research Betty. I just heard from Dr. Russotto and he said "things are wild there". He is hoping to start on the research in the near future he said. I don't think he really knows when that will be exactly but he does know that I need a lot of time ahead to make the announcement and make everyone aware of it so I don't think it will be the next short while. I had asked him to give me a few months notice. I am actually hoping it is in the fall as our summer is so short here in Canada, I hate to leave here, but I will do whatever it takes.

The main thing is he is still keeping in touch and as soon as I know anything I will be advising everyone.

Sincerely
Peggy

I worked as a research associate at University of California Dept. of Brain Aging and Dementia for 8 years. mostly testing new drugs. But I am interested in research, especially now I have been diagnosed with OT, and would like to help out any way I can. It took at least 3 years from onset until I was diagnosed, and even so I am not as badly off as some here. Let me know if I can help. I live in a relatively rural area, but know of two others who are in my area, and I can get to Seattle in two hours.

Hello,
I will be going back to visit family in the Omaha area in the next year. I would be more than happy to meet with Dr Torres-Russotto if appropriate. What is the status of his study?

I was hoping that we would have our next meeting in conjunction with Dr. Russotto and his research plans but I have recently heard from him as I had emailed him to see if there was anything happening in that regards. He advises that due to the economic situation it doesn't look like he will be doing his research in the short term. He did feel that this was a temporary situation though and will keep in touch with me in the future.
